Thoughts on recent themes / 最近のテーマについて考えてみた日

-- I can think of two main themes or directions in my practice.

  One is about listening to small and, in a way, unremarkable whispers that lie dormant in our body and the everyday—laments without a clear point or narrative.It’s about noticing the small, unnoticed, or unremarkable things that are almost like noise existing in the everyday and lie dormant in our body —feelings, images, emotions, and discomfort that inevitably flow in the depths, or the subtle beauty in a shadow. It’s about tuning in to these whispers and letting them resonate.

  The other axis, which in a way might also be related to those “murmurs” is the play between the sense of the virtual and the real. The unreality, weightlessness, elusiveness, distant memories, and floating quality coexist with a strange materiality and presence. Things are elusive, and I even yearn for the beautiful memories and the release of the body that are always accompanied by fading lightness, but at the same time, there is a desire to touch something, to feel oneself, to be sure of one's existence. I’m drawn to the exploration of the reality appear between that space and playing with the balance within it.

  These two concerns manifest in various ways—not only in the very content but also in the methodologies, visual language, or the choice of media. In this aspect, (fine) art—or freestyle arts—can be especially fascinating. (Although, interestingly, that essence often emerges in other realms of my work as well, like my upcycled fashion brand or other creative endeavors.)

--多分、私の制作は2つの軸があると思うんです。

  1つは、小さくて目立たない、とか根本でどうしょもない、やまもおちもないかもしれない美とかイワカンとか感情とかイメージのわき上がり、世界に落ちた影、そういう日常と体の中にあるササヤキに耳を傾けるってこと。 

  もうひとつは、これもあるいみ「どうしようもないササヤキ」のひとつなんだろうけど、バーチャル／リアル＝非現実感、軽さ、つかみどこなさ、遠い記憶、浮遊感／物質感、存在感、触れる欲求の矛盾した共存。物事はつかみどころがないし美しい記憶や身体の解放は軽さを伴うのに、同時に何かに、自身の存在に、触れ確かめたくなる欲求もある。その間にあるリアリティを求め、そのバランスで遊ぶこと。

　　その2つがコンテンツとしても、方法論やスタイル（視覚言語）やメディア選択にも 色んな形で表れて奇妙に共鳴するのがアート（表現自由型）のまぁおもしろいとこかなって、…同時に、私がやってる種々の別の活動でもそのエッセンス出てたりするのも面白いけど。。
