Poetical Alchemy is an upcycling brand by Natsuki Iwamoto, where she creates unique remade clothing and accessories from dead stock used garments (*1), vintage fabrics, and especially traditional Japanese kimono textiles. It’s a semi-spontaneous project where she carefully composes each piece with a poetic resonance, though, as she humorously notes, her sewing skills may still be a work in progress.
True to its name, Poetical Alchemy seeks to uncover poetic essences hidden in materials and expand its resonances, whether through the serendipitous pairing of materials or by reinterpreting the nuances of traditional kimono fabrics into casual, everyday wear.
As she worked on her first collection, she also realized that the image of “shadow” is the reccurent motif/theme in her creations. These shadows aren’t about total darkness but rather quiet and subtle presences: the soft, mysterious sides of the world, the overlooked or hidden elements, trivial sadness, pain and nostalgia, afterimages of the everyday, and the dormant layers of our psyche. Shadow reveals other shapes of our world.
In exploring fashion as a medium, she also considers the importance of ‘desire’— creating pieces that speak to yearning, nostalgia, self-image, and the human impulse to possess. Through this lens, she hopes to foster delicate communication and her own emotional exploration.
While she doesn’t know if this project will continue indefinitely, its essence lies in the serendipitous encounters with existing materials, each sparking new poetic themes. For now, she finds herself deeply engaged, crafting pieces that resonate gently with the heart.
Poetical Alchemyは、デッドストックのユーズド服を使ったり、ヴィンテージファブリックー特に着物や反物、また時に廃材をもを使ったりして、割と丁寧にコンポーズされた1点物のリメイク服やアクセサリー類を作っている半野良のファッションブランドです。（ちなみに縫製は下手です。）
そのブランド名の通り、あるときには素材の偶然の掛け合わせから詩的な共鳴を見つけ出したり、またある時には元の服・着物が持っているニュアンスをデイリーウェアやカジュアルウェアに翻訳したりしながら、その詩的効果を押し広げていきます。
作りながら見えてきたものですが、そこでは特に「影」のようなイメージ・テーマが常に一貫してあるように思います。それは私のアート制作においても持っているテーマなのですが、真っ暗な暗闇と言うよりかは、密かな影ー世界の裏側、影側のかたち、柔らかくミステリアスな部分、マイルドな痛みや哀愁、ノスタルジア、目立たない美の予兆、日常の密かな残像ーそういったイメージやコンセプトが、随所にコレクションに現れているように感じます。もう一つファッションプロジェクトとして多少なりとも意識しているのはデザイアブルなものであると言う事。何かしら欲望、憧れ、原風景、自己像、所有の欲に触れるようなもの、ファッションのそのような側面を通してのコミュニケーションや自己精神探求を意識しています。それらを通してじんわりと心に響くようなピースたちを作れたらいいかなって思ってます。
ある種の身軽さ、自発性と即興性を確保したいと思っているので、永久に続けるかは分かりませんが、既存のマテリアルとの偶然的な出会いに触発されることでその都度詩的テーマを見つけ出しているので、しばらくは飽き足りずに続いていくと思います。よろしくお願いします。
